Supply chain management: Fraunhofer opens up DISMOD logistics software

The Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flows and Logistics (Fraunhofer IML) has updated its DISMOD modal distribution planning software with number of new processes and technologies and has made a free demo version of it available online.

According to Fraunhofer IML, DISMOD is a tool for integrated optimization across multi-stage supply chains – from supplier to production, further processing and cross-docking right through to the factory or end-customer. It can also optimize site and production machinery utilization. The demo version (German version only) is available online at dismoddemo.iml.fraunhofer.de.The software core, DISMOD-CORE, is open source and available online. By making the source code available, Fraunhofer IML aims to stimulate knowledge-sharing and ensure that the software’s functionality is constantly being tested and honed under real-life logistics conditions."We want to foster the ongoing development of logistics software in an online community. Providers of TMS solutions are welcome to use our source library," said Bernhard van Bonn, the deputy head of Fraunhofer IML’s Transport Logistics department and the manager of its transport logistics consulting business.
