Paper reel transport

Industry associations recommend cargo securing standards.

The German Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal (BGL) and German Pulp and Paper Association (VDP) have issued a joint recommendation aimed at standardizing cargo securing systems for paper reels.

The recommendation, titled “Minimum Requirements for Cargo Securing Equipment in the Transport of Hardwound Paper Reels in Road Transport Vehicles,” sets out minimum criteria for the type and use of edge-protection products and anti-slip materials. The aim of the two associations in preparing the document is to achieve standardization in the use of load securing systems for hardwound paper reels. The standards should be practicable and be based on relevant norms and guidelines. The ultimate objective is to rationalize the volume of cargo securing aids road haulage operators need to carry. According to BGL, there are currently a large number of different cargo securing products and quality criteria in use in the logistics industry, which often makes logistics processes less efficient.

The recommendation (in German only) is available free of charge as a PDF download on the BGL website (Source: BGL/sp).
