New Noise-optimised Version of Jungheinrich Pallet Truck

Early-morning truck deliveries to supermarkets in residential areas can expose residents to unwanted noise. But now there is a solution, in the form of the new EJE 116 “SILENT DRIVE” pallet truck, which has a noise level of only 59 dB(A).

Jungheinrich launched a new option for its EJE 116 electric pedestrian-controlled truck: a series of features to reduce conventional driving and lifting noise. The EJE 116 “SILENT DRIVE” is designed particularly for applications at supermarket locations where quietness is at a premium. “This is the case for example when truck deliveries are made in the morning at supermarkets located in residential areas,” explains Stefan Hirt, Head of Product Management for Pedestrian-controlled Trucks at Jungheinrich.

The EJE 116 “SILENT DRIVE” achieves a reduction in noise levels down to 59 dB(A)1. “This puts an end to noise exposure for residents during morning deliveries in the urban environment,” continues Hirt, adding that the same benefits could be enjoyed by customers inside the supermarket during opening hours if the shelves were stocked using an EJE 116 “SILENT DRIVE” truck.

An entire series of technical modifications have been responsible for the reduction in noise levels. The hoods of the pallet truck, for example, have been damped in order to modify the pallet truck’s eigenfrequency. And with a Shore hardness of 75 the drive, load and support wheels are especially “soft”, helping to reduce the impact load while the truck is in operation. The addition of a tandem roller also contributes to a reduction in impact from the floor. A special, optionally available triple load wheel reduces noise exposure, i.e. the “impact sound”, on tiled floors or floors with numerous seams.

The design engineers for the EJE 116 “SILENT DRIVE” truck were particularly careful to employ a low-noise pump, which has moreover been decoupled from the frame to ensure the pump can no longer emanate vibration noise to the frame. The pump is also outfitted with a “lift limit cut-out” which automatically turns off the pump when the maximum lifting height has been reached, thus eliminating the typical noise which occurs when the stacker is in that state.

EJE 116: Economical Helper for Loading and Unloading

The Jungheinrich EJE 116 pallet truck – with or without noise reduction – has an extremely short front section measuring only 494 millimetres (L2), making it safe and easy to manoeuvre even in tight spaces. This makes the stacker an extremely economical helper for truck loading and unloading, as well as for transporting pallets over short distances. The EJE 116 can lift and transport payloads of up to 1,600 kilogrammes.

The Jungheinrich electric pedestrian pallet truck is equipped with a long tiller which guarantees safe operation by maintaining the right distance between operator and truck. In particularly narrow parts of the warehouse, a crawl speed button allows for safe travel at automatically reduced speed with the tiller in the upright position.

ProTracLink: Low Wear on Truck Support Wheels

Sprung, hydraulically cushioned support wheels – linked via the ProTracLink torsion bar suspension – distribute the stabilising force in response to different travel conditions. During straight travel the force is concentrated on the drive wheel for maximum traction. When cornering, support is concentrated on the outer support wheel, thus ensuring stable cornering for the pedestrian pallet truck. During ramp work ProTracLink minimizes wear on the support wheels due to its self-levelling adjustment feature: a torsion bar keeps both support wheels at the same height, ensuring that the lower support wheel does not catch anywhere or become damaged.

Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is a service provider with manufacturing operations as well as an intralogistics solution provider, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and consulting. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
