Jungheinrich with a new electric counterbalance truck

Jungheinrich is going to launch a new fork lift truck in the market in spring 2012: a counterbalance truck, type EFG 425-430, with an electrically powered motor. This new truck is powerful and at the same time energy-efficient and economical with up to 13 percent less energy consumption.

The truck series can transport loads up to 3.000 kilograms. This new range supplements the previous electric truck portfolio by two further trucks with 3 tons load capacity. While one of the trucks has an extended load centre of 600 millimetres, the other truck has a short chassis that reduces the turning radius.

Due to the use of the latest generation of environment-friendly Jungheinrich 3-phase AC technology, the electric trucks have a high operating ratio at constantly low energy consumption. According to VDI cycle, this could be reduced by up to 13 percent compared with the previous generation. “The new truck thus has excellent energy efficiency at highest performance“, says Stefan Pfetsch, Head of Product and Portfolio Management counterbalance trucks at Jungheinrich. “We call this Pure Energy“.

If required, the truck’s 80 Volt battery can be exchanged effortlessly and safely through a simple battery changing system. A device for fixing the battery, the SnapFit adapter, was combined with the Jungheinrich battery trolley concept. SnapFit now provides Jungheinrich with a standardised changing system for 48 and 80 Volt batteries combined with a commercial Jungheinrich pedestrian truck that picks up the battery to be changed. Stefan Pfetsch: “There is a significant economical improvement thanks to this simple and flexible battery changing option.”

Truck properties are determined by individual customer requirements

The new EFG 425-430 has two different specifications over and above all capacity classes. The truck performance can be configured in different ways due to the new equipment variants Efficiency and Drive&LiftPlus. Truck specifications can thus be adapted exactly to individual customer requirements.

The ergonomics of the new Jungheinrich electric trucks have also been adjusted and improved. Height and tilt of the slender steering column can be easily adjusted with one-point-adjuster. A seat mounted armrest offers additional operating comfort. It can also be steplessly adjusted in height and length. “All primary operating elements are thus quickly and simply adjusted to individual requirements of the driver”, Pfetsch underlines.

The truck is optionally available with a SOLO or MULTI PILOT integrated in the armrest. The cab itself is spacious and has a level cab floor without “stumbling blocks”– for excellent safety working conditions. Well thought out and easily reached compartments are also part of the cab design. “The truck sets standards regarding adjustments to the driver and storage.” A large window and slender profiles also ensure excellent visibility.

Various assistance systems for more safety and economic efficiency

The new EFG 425-430 is equipped with a number of modular assistance systems. They assist the driver dependent wherever he wants to utilise the truck. Access Control, for example, is an assistance system that only releases the truck after a certain sequence of control mechanisms (closed seat switch, seat belt). Drive Control is based on Curve Control successfully integrated in Jungheinrich electric trucks for more than 10 years. In parallel to speed reduction on corners, the travel speed is also restricted from a defined lift height. On the Lift Control assistance package for safe handling of the load, the tilt speed is also restricted from a defined lift height as well as, if required, an integrated sideshift is placed at a pre-programmed central position and the mast tilt is displayed.

Jungheinrich ranks among the world’s leading companies in the material handling equipment, warehousing and material flow engineering sectors. The company is an intralogistics service and solution provider with manufacturing operations, which offers its customers a comprehensive range of forklift trucks, shelving systems, services and advice. Jungheinrich shares are traded on all German stock exchanges.
