Eco balance for Jungheinrich forklift truck fleet MOT certified

TÜV North has certified the product eco balance – a systematic analysis of environmental effects of products during their entire life cycle (manufacture, utilisation and refurbishment) – according to ISO 14040. This makes the Hamburg company the first in the branch to receive such an MOT certificate. The balance states that Jungheinrich has lowered the CO2 emission in its traditional product segments by more than 25% during the last ten years.

Jungheinrich is the first forklift truck manufacturer to hold the environment award for “Tested Product Eco Balance”. It was awarded to the Hamburg company by TÜV North. TÜV systematically analysed the eco balance prepared by Jungheinrich and certified it according to ISO 14040. This contains the average total emission of the entire Jungheinrich fleet and showed that the CO2 emission in the traditional segments such as electric, Diesel, LPG and reach trucks reduced by over 25% during the last ten years.

Lowering CO2 emission preserves the budget of the users

The largest part of a forklift truck eco balance is taken up by the utilisation phase. It produces over 80% of the total CO2 emission of a fork lifttruck. A sizeable reduction in energy consumption is fully reflected in the energy balance and thus also on the budget of the user: “Jungheinrich has already today extremely energy-efficient forklift trucks”, declares Dr. Klaus-Dieter Rosenbach, Member of the Board of Management Engineering at Jungheinrich. “This means in basic terms: He who buys a Jungheinrich truck today saves ready cash tomorrow!”

The reason for this considerable reduction in CO2 emission in the entire Jungheinrich truck fleet during the past ten years is a chain of technology leaps. Apart from the overall introduction of 3-phase AC technology, these are in the range of electrically powered forklift trucks the high frequency charging technology and energy reclamation during braking or lowering the load. The development towards highly efficient, economical and environment-friendly trucks continued in the combustion engine forklift truck sector of Jungheinrich. Electronically controlled TDI motors with hydrostatic drives are continually improving the energy balance. Basis for this perfect interplay between motor and transmission is the Jungheinrich-own control software that always keeps the rotational speed of the motor at an optimum consumption rate.
