28th German Logistics Congress: Strong partner for sustainable intralogistics

The "green logistics" theme has been established as a new term in the discussion of sustain-able logistic solutions, including intralogistics. In terms of a sustainable logistic chain, KNAPP focuses on optimizing the energy and space requirements across the supply chain through suitable system solutions.

For the distribution centre of the future, systems will have minimal energy requirements and make the most use of the building volume by using the maximum possible height in the ware-house. The WMS module KiSoft Supply Chain Execution provides the complete optimization of inventory control and delivery through the central control of several distribution centres within a logistic network.

KNAPP is setting trends in system solutions with the "all in shuttle" principle based on the OSR Shuttle and Pick-it-Easy product families through new process approaches, such as batch processing for systems that are built according to the "goods-to-person" principle. The power requirements per aisle in comparison to conventional stacker cranes are reduced to less than 10 percent, the storage and retrieval movements per picking line are reduced and the space requirements are significantly optimized by using heights of up to 20 meters.

In terms of quality, preventing unnecessary work also plays an important role. KNAPP therefore invests in new technologies – such as image recognition and its application in the newly developed system, KiSoft Vision, to ensure 100 percent quality assurance in the picking, storage and replenishment processes. By integrating quality control directly in the work process, extra investments in check stations with their on-going costs and the necessary space requirements are reduced or entirely eliminated.

Another aspect of sustainability is the topic of social responsibility. Next to the high standards for employees KNAPP shoulders responsibility for each person who works daily with the system. KNAPP also sets new standards through further developments in ergonomics for the work station series Pick-it-Easy.

KNAPP developed a completely new goods-to-person concept under the brand Pick-it-Easy based on the most modern occupational health information. By optimizing noise control, user friendliness and design, a reduction of work load was achieved. The work station's work top can also be recycled and is extremely durable.
